I had not expected such a great museum about the rich history of the Bohinj area - and I mean that in a positive way, of course. The museum displays findings from the prehistoric era in Bohinj, to how leather is made, to exhibitions about 19th/20th century conflicts that affected the area.We arrived a little before 10am, but that was no problem. We received the warmest welcome and elaborate explanations on the museum. The lady of the museum (I'm sorry I don't know her name), was the nr. 1 person who made me feel welcome in Bohinj. She also explained how to get to Ajdovski Gradec, and recommended some other spots in the area. Overall, she really elevated our stay in the area.

An excellent museum, modern, well laid out and a treasure trove of history and why the Bohinj region plays an important part of history. Staff were friendly and very helpful. Small but powerful, especially the top floor on the first and second world wars.

Can't believe this is the first review of a gem of a museum, next door to a real bee house. Eclectic mix of a tannery, WW1 exhibits, and snippets of local history and culture. Enthusiastic multi-lingual guide, and entry is free with Julian passes (available from local tourist info centres).
