Truffle hunting Slovenia and culinary experience

I gladly accepted invitation for a truffle hunting by a friend from abroad while on visit in Slovenia. I was really interested in finding out the secrets of truffles in a woods on the Karst plateau, my home.We spent a great time in the morning, listening and learning about this exclusive activity while walking in the woods, accompanied by playful dogs Erik and Fendi. That was entertaining to follow the dogs in all directions in the woods and collecting, touching and smelling the truffles.After the hunt, we went to taste a four-course truffle menu and matching organic local wines. It was an exciting day for us, food and wine lovers and we had so much fun with the dogs. That was an experience that exceeded all my expectations.

I was really looking forward to this visit anyway but the actual experience still exceeded my expectations! A big thank you to Mati and Matjaz for their organisation and for sharing their extensive knowledge of truffles and other fungi. However, the real stars of the show were the lovely dogs; Erik and Fendi! The scenery in this part of the Karst is particularly attractive and on the way to the woods we had the priviledge of meeting Matjaz's 93 year old grandmother who still works in her fields every day, growing a wonderful selection of vegetables. Once we arrived at the woods the dogs started to locate truffles almost immediately which was really exciting. We were foraging for well over an hour and we could have stayed longer before we headed back to the house to enjoy an excellent lunch consisting of 3 truffle courses accompanied by local wine, If, like me, you have a love of the countryside, dogs and food then you will be in heaven! Even if you don't you couldn't fail to enjoy this experience!

There's a season for every truffle and we had no idea we were gonna find the more rare truffles and eat them ourselves!The owners were very friendly and knew their way around the forest. We had lots of fun seeing the dogs get to work together with us.It was a team effort and we had the most amazing gastronomical experience we've ever had when it comes to truffles.He also unlocked a big truffle secret, but we think you need to find that out for your selves!Have fun :-)

We had a great experience! Would really recommend doing the truffle hunt, including the 3-course meal. It was really nice getting to know more about truffles and the dogs. The dogs were very friendly and smart. Our guides were very helpful and gave us a lot of tips for the rest of our holiday in Slovenia. In the end, we went to a small but beautiful village where we had the best food. Very authentic! Thank you so much for this beautiful day. Amazing experience. We did the truffle hunt as a group of 4 followed by a 3 course meal. Our hosts were very warm, passionate and knowledgeable on the subject of truffles. We were able to have all of our questions answered so it was a nice learning experience as well. The dogs are the best, really friendly and experts in their field. The dining element was in an authentic setting with amazing local food and great hosts again. Couldn't recommend this more to anyone that wants to learn and eat truffle.
