Cotic Fly Fishing Slovenia

I had a great experience fishing with Jure on the Sava Bohinjka. I was in Slovenia for Hucho and had an extra day before my guided trip began, so I reached out to see if he would take me out to get 'warmed up'. He obliged, picked me up in Ljubljana, and after fishing dropped me off at my accommodation for the week in Bled.Conditions during my entire time fishing were rough... Late season, super low and clear water, freezing temps. But we made the most of it: We fished all day, covered a lot of water on the Sava B beat we had license to fish, and he was able to point out a few Hucho where they were holding. He also had a lot of great insight on behavior, feeding habits, etc, that were very helpful as well.Overall he was, knowledgable, attentive, and a really personable person to spend time with on the water. I like to do a lot of research before a big trip, so maybe what I appreciated most from Jure was all of the communication and valuable insight prior to the trip.Hucho fishing has a lot of differences from trout and saltwater fishing... Very heavy sinking lines, aggressive tapers/heads, big flies etc etc... (you can also go the two handed route, but it's not like spey casting at all). Jure was super helpful with describing the different in approaches to rods and lines, and also shared some good links to read. While it's not a 'new' fishery per se, it does feel like there is a lot of experimentation with means and methods going on, and it's always exciting to talk with people who are out there doing it.I definitely intend to go back to Slovenia soon... it's a stunning place, and some of the nicest water I've ever seen. My impression was that there are a handful of really great Hucho guides in Slovenia who really know their stuff... Jure's got all the attributes of a great guide, and his passion for the fishery is evident as soon as you talk to him. I definitely recommend you reach out to him if you are planing a trip to Slovenia in the future.

Jure was an excellent guide - he was very knowledgeable, easy to get along with and a great communicator. We were travelling from Tasmania and I set up a trip (kind of last minute) for my teenage son — Jure was super accomodating. My son had a blast and caught lots of large, beautiful trout and a grayling. An absolute highlight of our time in Europe. If we are ever back in Slovenia, we will make a point to seek out his guiding services again. Highly recommend!

Jure had to be away but he hooked us up with his friend Luca who was a superb guide. Me and BF had a blast in Soca river where we caught some beautiful marble and rainbow trout. Could never had done it without him!
