Let me start this review by saying that you have two entrances to this natural reserve. The second entrance to this reserve is near the Croatian border. Here you get to explore the park in all its glory.Personally, I was a bigger fan of the more wild part of this natural reserve and less enthusiastic about the active salt pan. But you need a bit of a drive to get to the natural reserve. This is because both halves of the park are not interconnected.Important side note, I advise you to get to this part on foot or drive there with your bicycle. I am saying this because the second entrance is situated in no man's land between the Slovene and Croatian border control. Once you pass the Slovene border control, you will see an unpaved road, parallel to the Dragonja river, on your right. Follow this one, and it will lead you to the entrance. That said, don't forget to bring your ID or passport. The customs officer didn't ask for an ID or anything like that to visit Krajinski park sečoveljske soline and the Solinarstva Museum, but it's better to be save than sorry. Now, suppose you decide to take your car to see this part of the natural reserve. Then it's good to know that you might get stuck in the holiday traffic making its way to Croatia. Nevertheless, it's also good to know that free bicycles are available at this entrance if you didn't bring your own. This part of the reserve, next to the Dragonja's estuary, is dedicated to the conservation of nature and the history of the saltworks. Hence, if you aren't interested in discovering more about the traditional way of mining salt or the local wildlife, then spending a few hours in this wonderfully preserved area might not be up your alley. At the Solinarstva Museum, you learn more about what life was like for the salt workers and their families. While roaming these wetlands of international importance, you might even see some peculiar waterbirds, Italian wall lizards, turtles, crabs, or even snakes (near the ruins). All these creatures live in or near those old salt evaporation ponds. This location is tranquil and relaxing. The most stressful and confusing part was crossing the border. Obviously, because I didn't know how the customs officers would react when I'd tell them that my partner and I wanted to visit a museum situated between two border crossings. All in all, if you are searching for a scenic view of Slovenia's coastal wetlands, then this place is the place to be.
