I came by here on my 12-hour walking trail from Dobova and onto some hills and then in Brežice. Of course i was not interested in the water treatment plant, but in the backwater of the river Sava.They are special due to constant inflow from thermal water sources. This is the reason water temperature never drops below 15 degrees centigrade.Some years ago people dropped tropical plant Pistia (Pistia stratiotes) into these waters. It is a popular aquatic plant for garden ponds, it started to grow vigorously in the warm water and now completely covers backwaters almost year around. It completely changed habitat of the backwater and is therefore classified as invasive alien species.There are many tropical animals in these backwaters too - tropical fish (Pseudorasbora parva, Oreochromis miloticus), red-eared turtle (Pseudoemys scripta elegans) and even Australian cancer red claw crayfish (Cherax quadricarinatus). Those have been released by careless aquarists.You are probably here because of the spa. But you can also visit a nice village of Prilipe and a fishing pond there, then go to Cerina and climb to sv. Vid, from which you will have a beautifull panorama view of Brežice and surroundings, far into the distance, though only to the limited compass directions, due to the trees
