We rented a car for two days and returned the vehicle in Portoroz. The driver drove on the local (excellent) roads only, never off-road and with extreme caution.We rushed to get to Piran before 7pm on the last day, as the Sixt Return Store was listed as being open until 7pm.Upon arrival there at 5:30 pm there was not a person in sight to receive the vehicle or any instructions as to what to do with the vehicle. An emergency number was listed on the wall, but as we are international travellers, we did not have a telephone that could call an international number on our person. Luckily, we got a message to members of our party already at a hotel, and in turn they arranged for the hotel concierge to phone the number on the door. He was told that we should leave the car in an unmanned Sixt Parking Bay and take the keys to the Kempinski Palace Hotel. There were no staff members from Sixt to receive or assess the vehicle upon return, or to even provide documentation or proof that we had returned the vehicle. We were informed by the Kempinski Palace that a Sixt employee would collect the key and the vehicle the next day.We received an email the next day stating that we had returned the vehicle on that day (which was not the case) and that damage had been detected. The car was driven by a single, experienced driver. I can categorically state that this vehicle was NOT damaged whilst it was under our care.Take note that this vehicle was standing in an open car lot for a night before it was collected by the rental agency. The damage could have occurred then, or occurred when their driver transported the vehicle. No one was available to check the vehicle with us when we dropped it off. That is if the car was even damaged, as the pictures sent through to us depicting the damage did not include the car’s registration number.We then received a threatening email saying that we had to complete a damage report within 8 days, and if not, our liability would NOT be limited to the excess amount as per their own terms and conditions. This occurred whilst we were still on holiday, without access to a computer and subsequently ruined the rest of the trip. We had to spend a whole evening filling in their forms and writing statements, which they clearly ignored in any case.Any correspondence or request for an explanation of the above was just met with a generic “We have considered the evidence available and we conclude you are responsible for the damage under our Terms and Conditions”Reading the other reviews here and reviews on other platforms from different renters, I deduct that this is a common modus operandi employed by this rental company.The invoice for the damage has been settled. I therefore have nothing to gain from this review (or by being dishonest regarding causing any damage). I write this review solely to warn others.Hopefully I can spare someone from having their holiday ruined. Upon reading other reviews it will be clear to the reader that this is not an isolated incident and other reviewers have suffered the same, unpleasant fate.

Their business model is not renting you cars, it's scamming you for money after you return them. They will find damage on the car and claim that it was you then send you an extortionate bill. Avoid this company at all costs they are a bunch of fraudsters.ZERO STAR COMPANY.

Experience deplorable. Personne pour receptionner la voiture. Un accueil sans bonjour sans explication et une mauvaise fois à toute épreuve ! Ce sont des gens impolis, non commerçant et profondément incompétents!On nous donne une panda pour le prix d'une clio... on ne nous montre pas la voiture... sans retour après avoir ramené la voiture...Desastreux!!!

I see many bad reviews here. I truly feel bad. I rented a car for a day on Sunday. My videotaped the car before and after. The office called me in the morning because I wad late. I took the local bus for 0.7 euro from the bus station. You have to buy the pass for 5 euro and use it up. I bougbt it with a credit card. I knew that car rental agencies dont always man the store during the office hours. I returned the car and left the key with the hotel on the hill. The car had lots of hail dents which the rental guy showed me. We had no problem driving. Gas was expensive. We also used the whole tank. We filled it up near by. I hope this office can continue to receive good reviews.

Very bad experience of Sixt Slovenia (Portoroz).I pre-booked my rent car from website and when I went to Portoroz Sixt car renting place ~30 min before (10:30 am), there was absolutely no personnel anywhere. Door was also locked. There was clear sign that the place is open 9 - 12 on weekends. I had to call to emergency number to get personnel on place who came there later than my renting start time.Then they said that sorry you can't get your pre-booked car but we have nice option here and what they did was that they demanded me to take Dacia Duster which was very bad car. Radio didn't work and there was constant issues with the mobile phone integrations. Gear stick was loose for a new car and the fuel door opening struggled.When returning car to Ljubljana Airport Sixt there was no personnel on returning parking lot. So once again call to emergency number where they just said that you have to come to bring the keys to inside the office close to airport. Nobody came to check the car.After all they found 3 cm scratch next to wheel that we couldn't see which of course they invoiced.Four day car rent with that garbage car costed 442€ and additional scratch fix 400e extra.This is very bad place to rent a car and you should really consider to use another car renting place if possible.

We got a car, and that is about the best thing I can say about the place. The staff was rude and disrespectful, gave us a car two sizes bigger than what we asked for (we wanted a small one for the narrow roads), and added erroneous charges to our bill. Because we had prepaid we were forced into this, but had we been able to walk away, we would have just got a taxi and rented somewhere else. When we contacted the customer service department, they replied with same rude tones and were no help. Rent somewhere else.

What a complete rip-off. They WILL find some kind of superficial damage when you return your car and will charge you a ridiculous amount even though you know they are not going to fix it. I mean the tiniest little ding. Never had this issue with Avis or Enterprise. There are plenty of more reputable car rental companies out there, just do not choose Sixt!
